An Analysis of Female Wrestlers’ Attitudes towards Wrestling According to Socio-Economic and Socio-Cultural Factors
Abstract
The objective of this research is to determine whether 26 female national wrestlers’, who have wrestled in 2010-2011 season, socio-cultural and socio-economic conditions have an impact on their perception and attitudes towards wrestling or not. Female Wrestlers Attitude Scale (BGTÖ) developed by the researcher is used as a means of data collection. The data collected in research is statistically analyzed and according to the results; while there is no dramatic variation in family relations, educational status, father’s educational background, and level of income and year of sports factors; in terms of mother’s educational background there is a dramatic variation against the ones whose mother is high school graduate. Regarding adoption and perception of wrestling, it has been determined that female wrestlers’, whose mother’s education level is high school, adoption and perception levels of wrestling are lower than the ones whose mother’s education level is primary school and undergraduate. Accordingly, to popularize female wrestling in our country, to have a better performance and to reach higher achievements in wrestling, various suggestions are made.
