The Effect of Mobbing on Burnout of Physical Education and Sports Teachers
Abstract
This research was carried out to examine the effect of mobbing behaviors on burnout of physical education and sports teachers. The Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised” developed by Einarsen and Raknes (1997) and revised by Einarsen, Hoelb, and Notelaersa (2009) and “Burnout Scale” developed by Maslach and Jackson (1981) were used as data collection instruments. The data used in the research were obtained from physical education and sports teachers employed in the state schools (n=93) and private schools (n=31) under National Education Ministry in Aegean Region. According to the results obtained from the research, mobbing behaviors and burnout perception level of physical education and sports teacher are low. There is significant and positive relation between mobbing behaviors and burnout variables. In conclusion, “person-related bullying” dimension is regarded as a reason that increases burnout of physical education and sports teachers in general.
