The Current Technical & Scoring System of Ski Jumping Sport

Abstract


As an old sport branch as human history, while skiing was once a means of transportation especially in Scandinavian countries, it is now a popular sport branch. A sub-branch of North discipline that is known as the oldest winter sport, ski jumping is one of the most in demand competitions. The aim of this study is to examine the technical and scoring system of the ski jumping sport which is such popular in the world, but new in our country since it was first met in Universiade Erzurum 2011. With reference to the fact that it will be an important resource for ski jumping sport which is very new and attracted the greatest attention from the public in Turkey via Universiade Winter Games, the main aim of the study is to observe the history of ski jumping, old and new ski jumping techniques, parts of ski jumping, flying styles, scoring system of ski jumping and factors affecting scoring. In this context, “The history of ski jumping, techniques of ski jumping and scoring system” were concentrated on and technical and scoring system of ski jumping was evaluated with all aspects. Literature review of the field was used as the data collection method. In this view, various written and visual resources were reviewed and gained data was used in the study. It is thought that, since ski jumping is new sports branch in our country, the study will contribute much to the literature in terms of introducing and improving this sports branch.
