Evaluation of Knowledge for Diet and Dietary Habits of Elite Athletes

Abstract


This study is designed to determine the dietary habits and knowledge level of the elite athletes from various branches in international context, on behalf of our country. Randomly selected athletes from Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Handball, Track and Field, Fencing, Weightlifting, Tennis, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Judo, Swimming, Boxing, Gymnastics, Badminton, Pentathlon, Skiing, and Archery for 18 Olympic, totally 334 elite athletes are the focus of the investigation. Data are gathered via questionnaires designed by the relevant specialist and statistical are reached by SPSS (version 15.0) software from the data collected are the frequencies and ratios acquired. As a result it is reached such on idea that elite athletes are not well aware of the nutrition in sports or not knowledgeable and not well-educated, in academic level though they compete in national and international games. Several scientific supports are needed for them, particularly in both knowledge and a balanced diet.
