The Effects of Anthropometric Measures of Elite Male Handball Team Players on the Vertical and Horizontal Jump Distance

İrfan Yıldırım, Vural Özdemir

Abstract

56 male handball players who play in Super League teams were involved in this study. The anthropometric characteristics, leg forces, the flexibilities, vertical and horizontal jump distances of the subjects whose average age is 24,91 were measured. In these measures, the anthropometric set, Seating - Access Test stand, scales, tape measures, Skinfold caliper, and new test 2000 device were used. The SPSS 16.0 package program was used to obtain statistical results in this study. To determine the impact of Anthropometric measurements to the distance of horizontal and vertical jumps of athletes, variance analysis was carried out. GLM (General Linear Model) Options from SPSS program and Duncan Multiple Comparison Test were used for variance analysis. The significance level was set at 0.01 0.05.

By means of the  measurements of Elite handball players, it was stated that height, body fat percentage, chest girth, waist girth, thigh girth, calf girth, biiliak diameter, wrist diameter, the length of thigh, the length of calf, leg strength and flexibility are important determinant as statistically to  the vertical jump distance  (p <0.01).  However ,it was observed that ,the age, body weight, shoulder girth, forearm girth, wrist girth, femur bikondüler diameter, chest depth diameter and all arms-length of handball players had an impact on  the vertical jump distance according to  p <0.05 level .It was found  that, forearm girth, calf length (p <0.01) with height, body fat percentage, waist girth, diameter of biakromial, biiliak diameter, wrist diameter, chest depth diameter and flexibility (p <0, 05) of the Elite handball players are effective anthropometric features to the horizontal jump distance.

In conclusion, it was stated that the anthropometric features of the Elite-Level Male Handball Team Players have a significant effect to the vertical and horizontal jump distance of players.
